Escharotic therapy

What is Escharotic Therapy?

Escharotic comes from the word eschar meaning tissue that over time falls off or sheds.

Escharotic therapy is an alternative option to treat abnormal cells of the cervix (dysplasia) caused by human papillomavirus (HPV).

The therapy offers women a non-surgical alternative option to treat cervical dysplasia as opposed to the conventional treatment loop electrosurgical excision (LEEP).

Escharotic therapy involves herbal agents applied directly to the cervix to form a scab known as an eschar. Along with topical treatments, therapy includes vaginal suppositories and a holistic approach to supporting the body.

Who would benefit from Escharotic Therapy?

Escharotic therapies are used to treat those diagnosed with abnormal cells of the cervix such as cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN I, CIN II and/or CIN III). However, this is not a treatment option for invasive cervical cancer.

What would treatment include?

After your initial 10 minute informational consult with Dr. B, you will meet with her for a first visit to assess treatment options and to discuss other health concerns. From there, she will create a holistic treatment plan to include dietary, lifestyle and/or supplement recommendations to improve your outcome. A minimum of 12 escharotic treatments are required either once or twice weekly in addition to a supplemental regimen and vaginal suppositories.

Are there any side effects?

Because the treatment involves the formation of an eschar or scab on the cervix, mild burning, discomfort and/or pelvic pain can occur.

Why should I choose Escharotic Therapy?

Because escharotic treatments are relatively safe and effective, they offer those struggling with a diagnosis of cervical dysplasia a different option for treatment.

Most conventional treatments like LEEP or cone biopsies can leave the cervix unable to hold a viable pregnancy. And for those of child bearing age, these options can result in infertility or miscarriages. Escharotic therapy treats the dysplasia and ultimately leaves the cervix intact.
